The clinical need

Manchester Imaging has developed OsteoDent, a simple and effective tool using a routine dental x-ray to assess osteoporosis risk. By analysing the jawbone image and combining it with basic patient information, OsteoDent classifies individuals into risk categories, supporting earlier identification and intervention for osteoporosis.

Project challenge

To support its UK launch strategy, Manchester Imaging approached Medipex for help in evaluating the healthcare market opportunity. The goal was to build a compelling case for OsteoDent by evidencing its patient and system-level benefits, supported by a robust economic model to demonstrate the impact of adoption.

Barriers to identifying at-risk patients through existing pathways
Government-funded programmes aimed at improving early detection
The structure of NHS dental contracts and the potential role of dentists in delivering community-based screening
In parallel, our Associate Cost Modelling Expert developed a model showing the potential financial savings and return on investment (ROI) from enhanced osteoporosis surveillance, both locally and regionally, if OsteoDent were commissioned as part of routine dental care.

This comprehensive insight enabled the project team to shape a strong UK market entry plan, aligning clinical benefits with health system priorities and preparing a clear commercial case for NHS stakeholders.
