Augmented Healthcare: The Digital Technology for Clinical Auditing and Quality Assurance
A new tool for out-of-hours medical consultation audits
The clinical need:
Medical consultations led by GPs and other health professionals are regularly monitored for auditing and quality assurance purposes. The audits are carried out by peer review, which adds to the workload burden of senior clinicians and generates additional costs to the clinics, leading to only a small fraction of consultations being monitored.

Project challenge:
Augmented Healthcare has developed a post-consultation monitoring tool which monitors 100% of the consultation content and collects valuable insights into the quality of consultations and the performance of staff. The company wanted to understand how the software could be utilised in the out-of-hours settings and to what extent it could reduce the auditing costs and burden on senior clinicians.
How did Medipex help?
Medipex was asked to identify challenges with the current consultation audit and help to understand the relevant clinical audit delivery requirements, depending on the type of healthcare providers. Medipex was also requested to undertake a review of competitive solutions and potential partners. In addition, Medipex worked with LFH Regulatory (https://lfhregulatory.co.uk/) to understand regulatory implications, the rationale for medical device classification, and to suggest a regulatory roadmap.
Impact:
The report helped the team to understand the complexity of the out-of-hours service landscape and the most relevant aspects of how urgent care differs from primary care, including the consultation monitoring, auditing and training pathways. This knowledge helped to understand where the software could be most needed, and what the closest competition is. Medipex identified and set up a meeting with a large urgent care provider who agreed to organise a workshop to understand how Augmented Healthcare’s software could be used in their organisation.
The LFH Regulatory provided a comprehensive document explaining potential regulatory obstacles for the current product and future products in the commercialisation pipeline.
The project was funded by an RTO grant through Innovate UK Business Growth.
